Telesales Jobs

A telesales salesperson’s primary role is to develop leads for a company. This is done almost entirely by cold calling. Telesales calls are important to companies as it is one of the best ways of bringing on new business. The salesperson would call potential companies or customers and try and entice them by two main ways. They might simply try and close the sale over the phone using rehearsed language that is most likely to work, but this method only really works with less expensive products or services. The preferred method is appointment setting which consists of persuading the customer to allow you or a representative to come down and meet them face to face. A face to face sales pitch is far more likely to be effective and can also help to build long term relationships between the two companies.

A telesales salesperson’s job can be quite depressing as the number of calls he would need to make before he achieves a lead could be in the hundreds. But it is always important to keep up motivation and confidence for every call as the customer will not buy from someone who doesn’t want to be on the phone with them.

There is a lot of training and experience required to be a good telesales salesperson. Confidence isn’t something you can just achieve through a few calls, and there has to be the right mix of confidence and understanding. An experienced salesperson will know that it is almost impossible to get a customer to part with their money on the first call. The best way to approach telesales is trying to develop a relationship between you and the client, finding out their problems in the workplace and trying to relate them with your personal past experiences. It is best to be honest and genuine because people always like somebody they can trust not to try and take their money. Once you have the customer as a contact they are far more likely to use your company when they really do require the product you are selling. It is far easier to approach somebody you already know and have contact details of.

The daily tasks a telesales salesperson might carry out could be 3-6 hours of telesales a day at hours of the day when there is more likely to be the best person to speak with. They would liaise with existing customers to keep relationships at their peaks, mostly by email.

A telesales salesperson should expect to be paid a basic of between 15 and 30k depending on experience and commission. There is likely to be commission involved on developing new leads that turn into sales but this depends on how far the telesales person is asked to take the lead. This can be a challenging job but the rewards can be high and it gives you the opportunity to work your way up in the company.
