Retail Sales Jobs
This is the person who is responsible for receiving payment for products for example in a shop. A salesperson in this respect has generally easier tasks to perform that do not require much skill or training. Because of this retail jobs are generally filled by younger people who have less experience in work. Retail jobs are typically a low pay depending on the minimum wage eligible for the individual.
Typical daily tasks that would be carried out by a salesperson could be; Scanning products and taking payment for them, ability to count change is necessary. Depending on the type of store or product, stacking shelves with new products could be required. Within a store you might work within a team of salespeople who would switch round tasks within the shop to try to keep motivation and interest in different environments.
Salespeople who work in retail are not often needed for actually selling the products in-store; they are often used to locate particular sections of the shop or individual products. They may be used to locate products in different sizes or styles.
There are often opportunities for contract work or temp work for example over busy periods like Christmas. Retail salespeople often don’t stay for long periods of time as the pay is low and the work is tedious.
In most retail stores they hire mostly part time staff that are scheduled to work a number of hours a week doing a morning or evening shift. When employed as a retail salesperson you could be called on a regular basis to be asked to cover particular shifts or days as other employees may have other commitments or other jobs. This type of job can be worked alongside other jobs or education.
