I.T. Sales Jobs


An I.T. Salesperson is someone who sells I.T. systems to customers and businesses. Depending on the type of product it may be necessary for the salesperson to have some experience with the system and what it does, however if it is a more basic system that is self explanatory it wouldn’t matter as much. The product is often sold to a particular or specialised industry for example recruitment software to recruitment agencies.

For someone with previous experience of the program for example an I.T. technician, they are able to answer advantages and disadvantages of the software to a company to have an older version. With the more in depth knowledge they may have a better chance of persuading someone who knows less about computers. With the experience they have developed in I.T. systems they can meet their client and show them the product, how it can be used as well as the different functions it may have to offer. A demonstration of the product gives the client a much better idea of what they are buying and makes the product far easier to sell as you are not explaining it over the phone.

With I.T. software a company either wants it or they don’t. It is important to catch up with companies to see which systems they use, but its best not to call too often or the company you work for may start to get a bad reputation for repetitive phone calls and spam.

It is always important when doing telesales that you are speaking with the right person. In most large companies, the secretary that directs and handles most of the inbound calls have been told not to allow sales calls through to employees and managers as it disrupts their work. Salespeople need to know how to find a method of getting through to the right person to efficiently sell their product.

An I.T. salesperson is much like a normal salesperson but specialised and more extensively knowledgeable about their product.
