Field Sales Jobs

A field salesperson can be anyone who sells a product “door to door” to someone who simply works from home. Door to door is very much a residential pitch as it is usually product that could be used in the home or for your house. An example of this could be selling solar panels or a loft conversion. This type of salesperson needs to be quite fit and energetic physically to be able to keep up with the faced paced work often walking several miles per shift.

Door to door salespeople could work for other companies but it also often a popular marketing strategy for independent workers.

Some daily tasks this type of salesperson might undertake could be undertaking sales activities in a specified area. Developing new business and customers by using different methods of selling, for example face to face. If working for a company must maintain the company’s sales. It is always important to keep an eye on competitors in your sector to match any promotions they are offering or if their products might affect your sales plans.

To be a field salesperson you need to have various skills and experience. A salesperson will always have to have good communication skills both written but especially verbal. You should be persuasive but subtle as you do not want to pressurise them into purchasing your product. Energy in what you’re selling is very important as it is easy to see if someone doesn’t want to be there and doesn’t believe in the product they are selling.

Salespeople do not need any necessary qualifications as your salesperson abilities are usually judged on your experience.

A salesperson does not need to have a degree as skills are more important here. But a commerce degree or an MBA with specialisation in sales and marketing will help him.

Field salespeople typically aren’t paid much of a basic salary some purely working for commission only. They get few benefits and often work on a temp basis to try and increase sales for a particular company. It is likely the part time work could earn a field salesperson around £8 an hour with a commission of around 10-15% depending on the value of the product you are selling. A field salesperson position is normally the lower end of the sales industry but can also act as a good way of getting experience for a high level sales position.
