Fast Moving Customer Goods are products that have low cost and are designed to be sold in a fast paced day to day environment. Such goods could be for example soft drinks, bars of chocolate, newspapers etc. This type of salesperson needs to know tactics to encourage passersby to buy these products. A typical salesperson tactic would be to display chocolate bars along both sides of a queue in a shop. In a queue a customer would be passing time look around them and can be easily tempted into picking something up. A salesperson within a FMCG company would be responsible for promoting their product in a way that would encourage a customer to choose their product over all of the other competition. They might suggest slogans for the product for example “grab and go” as an incentive to the customer of how easy it would be to purchase the particular product.
As a FMCG salesperson you would also be responsible for the restocking of your clients products for example in a Coke vending machine. The salesperson would in charge of creating invoices and arranging deliveries to the store or machine.
A FMCG salesperson would have all of the normal responsibilities of finding new business to sell their product to; cold calling and attending meeting. Maintaining client relationships and taking into consideration their needs and problems is a key part of retaining business.
Some example companies that require experienced FMCG salespeople would be companies like Budweiser, Nestle, Coke, Buxton. These companies have inexpensive products sold to end consumers in director competition with other brands. The salespeople need to ensure their products are making better sales than competitors.
A FMCG has a fast paced job that can be mentally rewarding as well as disappointing. There may be several times when you get turned down but good salespeople strive for the times when they make a new client and this drives them forward.
